How to use People Also Ask boxes for keyword ideas

Google's People Also Ask boxes are a free mine of long-tail questions. Here's how to turn them into a keyword and content strategy.

Type a query into Google and you will see a People Also Ask (PAA) box full of follow-up questions. Those questions are not decoration — they are real user demand, hand-picked by Google. Here is how to mine them into long-tail keywords.

Why PAA questions are so valuable

PAA questions carry three signals at once. They show actual interest (Google surfaces them because people click), they are phrased the way real users type, and they are typically lower competition than the root query.

Each PAA question is effectively a long-tail keyword with a natural content format attached: a FAQ entry, a dedicated section, or a standalone post answering it.

The manual mining workflow

  • •Start with a seed keyword and run it through the long-tail keyword generator
  • •Search the seed in Google and open every question in the PAA box
  • •Keep clicking the follow-up questions — each click expands a new set
  • •Collect questions that map to a page you can realistically publish

Turn questions into pages and snippets

For each PAA question, decide between a section and a standalone post. If the question deserves 200 words, add it as an FAQ section with a clear heading. If it deserves a thousand words, publish a full post and link back.

Structure the answer as a direct paragraph under the exact question as a heading. Search engines match question phrasing specifically, and a clean direct answer is the same format used for featured snippets.

Refresh PAA questions seasonally

PAA boxes change as search behavior changes. Update your question list every three months, add the new questions to existing pages, and keep older sections trimmed. This maintenance is cheap and keeps your pages aligned with what searchers actually ask today.
